Danielle + Filipe’s short film as featured on Martha Stewart
For the years upon years we are smothered with not good enough. You are, I am, have always been, the woman of my dreams.
I ask for intimate justice. Marry yourself first. Commit to pleasure. You are worthy. We are all worthy.
Inspired by Ana Mendieta (some believe murdered by her husband Carl Andre at the peak of her artistic career and his) + the incredible Mulleavy sisters who brought babies breath back with a vengeance.
Short Film for Cholente's SS18 collection.
Girls portrayed in the same light of strength and wild as their little brothers have always been. Not caring about impressing anyone or being as nice as sugar and spice. An 80’s all boy cast rebellion mash-up + a high five to Stranger Things. SONG: Give It Up by The Beaches (licensed through Universal Canada)
My intention is to portray a woman as the complex and layered person she is. In Coma, Lou is not just a thing of beauty, not a pretty girl. After sharing the video with a close male friend, his comment was simply “she doesn’t look pretty”... as if to say, I had made a mistake, that somehow we had failed to transform her into an object of his desire. I was delighted, and of course, a bit alarmed. Wasn’t there, isn’t there, more to it than that? The purpose of this project was to share the experience of feeling suffocated; when as a woman you realize how much your self is received as one-dimensional, an object of vision. Lou evolves through the stages of death (the subconscious), rebirth (the transition), and life (conscious). A man revives her, not as a metaphor that we are damsels in distress, but that with the partnership of our male allies our freedom can become. That we truly are stronger together. I seek to consciously craft a female narrative that reflects the unspoken, unshared, unconsciousness, unknown self. Coma is a journey in self-awakening and walking forward into the future face on. Owning our story.
Coma is the opening track from Lou Canon's sophomore album, Suspicious. With roiling drumbeats, and breathily expressive vocals, it leads you through the dark corners of her innermost subconscious.
Suspicious was born from an unguarded place of vulnerability and tension. What began in solitude, continued to take shape with the addition of co-producer Mark Lawson (Arcade Fire, Basia Bulat). Working from Toronto and Montreal they saw contributions from Tim Kingsbury, Pietro Amato, Young Paris, amongst others.

An incredible collective of women, aka #6buds, drove to Detroit last fall to collaborate on Flower House. A project bringing florist's together to raise money for the deconstruction of abandoned homes in the city of Detroit. The #6buds team, organized by Toronto Flower Market, were given a room of their own which they called Common Ground. This film documents their enthusiasm, cooperative nature and raw talent as they transform a rotting bedroom into a wild enchanted forest. Women working together for positive change and transformation.
